Museum Of San Michele (Saint Michael)

The museum, adjacent to the parish church and opened to the public in 2004 after a series of restorations, is made up of the chapel of San Michele and two exhibition halls, originally belonging to the architectural complex of the Monastery of the Visitation.
The chapel, with its entrance in Cavour square, preserves paintings from the seventeenth and eighteenth century, including a beautiful presentation of the Virgin in the Temple that is attributed to the canonic Luigi Crespi from Bologna, son of the famous Giuseppe Maria Crespi. From 1698, decorations of painted and gilded putty were realized thanks to the efforts of Nicholas Giani.

The spacious hall, which is part of the Museum, preserves a choir with stalls on three sides. In the central side stands the bench reserved for Mother Superior. Above the backs there is a series of rectangular frames with inscriptions and holy images interspersed with angels in neo-Gothic style.
Inside the display cases, you can admire precious liturgical vestments, including a clad in silk, with gold threads, on which, the motif of a rocky arch and a wooden bridge over a pond fed by a waterfall is repeated. And, in the adjacent room, furthermore there are sacred furnishings of exquisite make, including the seventeenth-century silver monstrance, made by the goldsmith Paolo Laurentini from Firenze.

The entry to the museum is free: from 1 June to 30 September: Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 16.30 to 19.00. From 1 October to 31 May: Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 15.30 to 18.30.
